Brazil finally upholds ban on sales of e-cigarette products
Since 2009, the country has banned the manufacture, sale, importation and advertising of e-cigarettes.

The board of directors of the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) voted unanimously on April 19 to maintain a ban on the sale of e-cigarettes and other electronic smoking products.
The country has banned the manufacture, sale, importation, and advertising of e-cigarettes since 2009, but e-cigarettes are easy to find in small stores and online stores across Brazil. Consumption, especially among young people, is on the rise.
According to media reports, a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), a federal government agency that collects demographic data, showed that 16.8 percent of students between the ages of 13 and 17 said they had tried e-cigarettes at least once.
In addition, data from Covitel, which conducts surveys related to health issues, shows that 4 million people in Brazil have used e-cigarettes, despite maintaining a 15-year ban on sales.
In 2022, Anvisa approved a technical report stating the need to maintain the ban and take additional measures to curb irregular e-cigarette sales, including more inspections and educational campaigns about the dangers of e-cigarettes.
After hearing from experts, e-cigarette manufacturers, and consumers, the agency revisited the case last week.Anvisa once again took a stand against the sale of e-cigarettes and based its decision on four key points.
