An illegal e-cigarette trade worth 300 million Turkish lira (about $8.4 million) has been uncovered by the tax inspection department of the Ministry of Finance in a crackdown on illegal e-cigarette sales.

According to Turkish law, all bans related to tobacco products also apply to e-cigarettes. As a result, Turkey strictly bans the advertising and promotion of e-cigarettes and prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes to individuals under the age of 18.

Under these regulations, selling e-cigarettes online and shipping them via Courier services is also considered illegal. In addition, because cigarette bombs and disposable devices contain nicotine, they cannot be freely traded.

As part of the operation, more than 20 billion lire currency transactions were scrutinized and the business operations of more than 50,000 taxpayers were investigated, ultimately exposing unregistered illegal e-cigarette transactions worth 300 million lire.

Earlier, Turkish Commerce Minister Omar Borat had said that in 2024, customs seized more than 5.952 million pieces of e-cigarette equipment and parts worth 469 million lira.
